Montana Public Health Association Member Engagement Survey
The Advocacy and Policy Committee is in the process of developing a survey that has been specifically designed to create a baseline understanding of the willingness of MPHA members to engage in legislative advocacy activities. The Advocacy and Policy Committee plays a significant role in the ability of the Montana Public Health Association to advocate on behalf of public health issues that impact Montanans every day. Much of the influence that an organization such as MPHA can have on laws and policies that affect public health is through harnessing the power of personal stories, experiences and the willingness of individuals to speak up for that which they believe to be important. Currently, the Advocacy and Policy Committee believes that this area has much room for improvement.
This survey is part of a larger effort by the Advocacy and Policy Committee to plan a more effective legislative engagement strategy which will include key stakeholder interviews of current actively engaged members, in-depth interviews of key legislators and the membership survey to be sent out in December. This information will inform planning of the 2016 MPHA Annual Conference, as well as more comprehensive offerings for legislative advocacy trainings into the future.
This survey is being developed by Amanda Diehl, an active member who joined the MPHA Advocacy and Policy Committee in July 2015. She is a graduate of the University of Minnesota School of Public Health with a keen interest in rural health policy and legislative advocacy as a tool to enhance the opportunities for a healthier society. The Membership Engagement Survey is currently being piloted to the MPHA Advocacy and Policy Committee, as well as the membership of the Eat Right Montana Coalition. Feedback on the survey will be collected from now until the middle of December, with the Survey being sent out to the entire MPHA membership soon after.
As members of the Montana Public Health Association, each of you plays an integral role in MPHA’s ability to make a difference on behalf of public health in Montana. Legislative advocacy is one of the most powerful tools to public health professionals, and MPHA is dedicated to meeting you where you are at in your experience with it. Please take the time to complete the survey when it comes to you, your input and time are extremely valuable to this project!
