Afilliated with the APHA

The Montana Public Health Association has a long history of advocacy and education related to the State Legislature which meets every other year in January of the odd numbered years. Organizational members educate and lobby legislators with the purpose of advancing and supporting legislation that enhances the health of the population. MPHA joins with other organizations on specific issues to strengthen the Voice of public health and advance legislation support to the people of Montana.

The organizational newsletters and minutes provide historical information of interest to public health professionals. For information on advocacy issues nationwide, check out the Advocacy page at the APHA site.

Senator Max Baucus, Lora Wier, Ginger Roll  & Senator Jon Tester

During a recent trip to Washington, D.C., to attend the annual APHA Conference
and Exposition, Lora Wier, MPHA  Executive Secretary and Ginger Roll, MPHA President,

had the opportunity to spend some time with Senators from Montana, Max Baucus and Jon Tester. The occasion was one of the weekly early morning "Meet and Greets" provided by the Senators and their staff. Among the host of Montanans taking part in the opportunity, Lora and Ginger were fortunate enough to speak with each senator personally and to spend some quality time with their staffmembers. A number of important public health issues were discussed; the meetingopened the door to further communication between the esteemed senators from Montana and their constituents representing public health at home.
